Travel insurance is one of those topics most travellers scan past while booking. In Bali, the situations where it actually matters are specific: medical evacuation from remote areas, cancelled dive trips due to rough seas, and delays that cost more than the policy premium.
Medical and evacuation cover
Public hospitals in Denpasar and Kuta can handle routine care, but serious injuries or conditions requiring specialist evacuation are commonly covered only by international policies. Many 2026 traveller guides recommend confirming whether your policy includes helicopter evacuation or transfer to Singapore or Australia.
Cancellation and trip interruption
Airlines, weather and operator cancellations can strand you mid-itinerary. If you prepaid tours or villas, cancellation cover can recover deposits that are otherwise non-refundable. Policies vary widely on natural disasters, volcanic activity and pandemic-related interruptions.
