Uluwatu Temple Sunset: Dress Code, Kecak Dance Tickets & Best Seats 2026
Published October 3, 2026
Uluwatu Temple sits on a volcanic headland with ocean on three sides, which makes sunset reliable even when cloud cover affects other Bali viewpoints. The main friction points in 2026 are dress-code enforcement, ticket availability and seating placement for the Kecak dance.
What to wear at Uluwatu
Guides and temple authorities consistently require a sarong and sash for entry. Some visitors rent these at the gate, but bringing your own is cheaper and often cleaner. Shoulders should be covered, and tight or short clothing is commonly turned away at the checkpoint.
Kecak dance tickets and seating
Traveller reports in 2026 mention online pre-booking as the safer route, especially from June through August. Seating is on stone steps; front rows give clearer views of the fire element but less sky context, while upper rows capture more sunset and horizon.
Timing and crowd behaviour
Arrive 45-60 minutes before sunset if you want to walk the cliff path and find a seat without rushing. Macaques are active near the temple walls; secure sunglasses, hats and loose straps before you enter.
What not to do
Climbing on temple walls or structures for photos is explicitly discouraged by temple management. Recent Bali travel guides say security staff are more likely to intervene in 2026, so keep cameras at ground level and respect posted boundaries.
